We have been busy with getting lots lined up for the build but this deserves a place on the grid. Storm Darragh arrived on the farm and started the demolition of the existing barns earlier than predicted 🤣🙈 This is the overhang for the barn opposite where @ourbramblebarn will be so we feel we got off lightly considering wind speeds of 65mph! @ourdevonfarm is made of stronger stuff! Living on a farm means there's always something to do. It also means grabbing the few days this time of the year when it's dry (sunshine is always a bonus!) That's just what we did. This job was bringing the overgrown hedges/trees down behind the main farmhouse which we are all living in while we build the barn. Are you impressed with the neat bundles? *Timber Company Visit* 🔉sound on 🔉 This week we went to see Allwoood Timber Construction which is local to us here in Devon. We have a unique build in the fact that our ground floor is a traditional masonry build and our first floor is a timber frame. This is due to us requesting a block and beam first floor (will explain more on that soon). At Allwoood we got shown around the site and saw where our timber frame would be made and put together. We are hoping to use a local company and are currently seeking quotes. As you can imagine, we are learning so much each day and of course haven't made things easy with our mixed build but it's so exciting to start exploring how our house will be made! Here are the plans for the South and East Elevations. Our favourite part of the house where we were allowed to get creative. We wanted to let as much light in on the east side and sliding doors and full length fitted panes will allow this! The sliding doors will be on the bridge which is how we will access the garden. These elevations show the 'cut in' element of the barn. Did you notice the array of solar panels on the roof. We hope for these to be in-roof and as invisible as possible.
